Metal filters are widely used in various fields such as chemical industry, petroleum, food, and pharmaceutical industry due to their durability, high temperature and high pressure resistance, and reusability, used for air and purifier, hepa filter, air filter, etc.; dust removal and particle recovery; bacteria filtration and pharmaceutical and liquefied gas purification, etc. However, after long-term use, metal filters will inevitably accumulate impurities, affecting the filtration efficiency and service life. Therefore, it is crucial to master the correct cleaning method.

Metal filters are mainly composed of metal filter screens, support structures, and shells. Its core component, the metal filter screen, is woven with metal materials such as stainless steel, copper, and nickel, with different pore sizes and weaving methods to meet the needs of different filtration precisions.

Cleaning method

The cleaning method of metal filters is mainly selected according to the nature and degree of contamination of the filter. Common methods include:

1. Physical cleaning:

  • Backwashing: Use reverse-flowing liquid or gas to wash away dust on the surface of the air filter screen. Suitable for situations where dust are loose and easy to fall off.
  • Ultrasonic cleaning: Use the cavitation effect of ultrasound to shake off impurities in the gaps of the air filter screen. Suitable for cleaning precision filters.
  • Mechanical scrubbing: Use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the surface of the air filter. Be careful not to use a hard brush to avoid damaging the filter.

2. Chemical cleaning:

  • Acid cleaning: Use acidic solutions such as dilute hydrochloric acid and nitric acid to dissolve metal oxides and alkaline impurities.
  • Alkaline cleaning: Use alkaline solutions such as sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate to dissolve grease and organic impurities.
  • Oxidant cleaning: Use oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite to remove organic matter and microorganisms.
  • During chemical cleaning, the following operations should be noted:
  • Before chemical cleaning, it is necessary to understand the chemical composition of the filter and select a suitable cleaning agent to avoid chemical reactions that damage the filter.
  • After chemical cleaning, it is necessary to rinse thoroughly with clean water to avoid residual cleaning agents affecting the filtering effect.

3. Heat treatment:

  • High-temperature incineration: Place the air filter in a high-temperature furnace and incinerate it to remove organic matter and microorganisms. Suitable for high-temperature resistant metal filters.
  • Steam cleaning: Use high-temperature steam to dissolve grease and kill microorganisms.

3. Precautions

  • Before cleaning, close the filter inlet and outlet valves and drain the liquid in the filter.
  • When cleaning, wear protective gloves, glasses, etc. to avoid harm to the human body caused by cleaning agents and impurities.
  • After cleaning, check whether the filter is intact. If it is damaged, replace it in time.
  • Regular cleaning of the filter can effectively extend its service life and improve the filtration efficiency.

Cleaning the metal filter is a key link to ensure its efficient operation. Choosing the appropriate cleaning method and paying attention to the operating specifications can effectively remove impurities, restore filtration performance, extend service life, and keep your metal filter in the best condition at all times.
